Draft Black Country Plan

Representation ID: 21472

Received: 11/10/2021

Respondent: Mr Stephen Parr

Representation Summary:

1. Although living in this area for nearly 70 years I had no knowledge about these proposed plans until last week . I was amazed to see that the end date for 'consultation' was 11.10.21. I have received no notification or information from any source until getting a newsletter 'Focus' from the Lib Dems last week! Nothing from Sandwell Council or any councillors. There has been no consultation of any kind to my knowledge. This discredits the whole plan.
2. In particular site ref: SA-OOO1-SAN (Tanhouse Ave; Newton Ward). The site is totally unsuitable for these reasons : a)the site has always been known as green belt. The site has a public right of way by usage- rough paths have been made since the last century by people alone or with friends or exercising dogs etc
b) It is adjacent to a busy railway line which has heavy freighttrains running throughout the night.
c) It is adjacent to both a RSPB sanctuary ( I stress this last word!) and Sandwell Country Park.
d) A view which many visitors admire looking over the fields up towards Hamstead Hill and even further would be lost forever.
e)This land has never been developed;it is a rare oasis in the area
f) The nearby roads, Tanhouse and Hamstead Road are now increasingly busy with much traffic ignoring all speed limits.
g)Possible flood risk eg an area of Tanhouse Avenue opposite numbers 23, 21 sometimes floods after a downpour up to and over the kirb onto the pavement.
h) The site is above or in close proximity to coal mining tunnels once linking Hamstead Colliery with the Jubilee Colliery near Forge Lane.
3.Becuse of the lack of prior knowledge about these plans I have had little time to consider the matter further. However, the above comments should be seriously considered and hopefully prevent a big mistake being made.
