Representation Summary:

I support the allocation of this site for designation as a Local Green Space, for the reasons stated in the above document and in Section A-6, Sites Assessed for Local Green Spaces of the Draft Black Country Plan Site Assessment Report... Appendix A - Dudley <https://blackcountryplan.dudley

I would also like to add that the Historical Significance section of the latter document (p513) does not mention the fact that there is circumstantial evidence to suggest the raised ground at the eastern extremity of the Corbett Meadow site may be of archaeological significance. The old field-names Hanbury Piece and Hanbury Leasowes (Deeley, 1688) suggest there may have been a fortified
settlement in this vicinity. Although its date cannot be reliably inferred from this evidence, it was not unusual for fortifications of the early medieval (Anglo-Saxon) period to be placed upon ridges and hill spurs topographically similar to that which extends from the junction of Vicarage Road and Kirkstone Way, westwards to the upper end of Queen’s Crescent. Moreover the mapped course of Vicarage Road and the co-linear land boundary and pathway to the east (now behind 10 to 15A Vicarage Road and 1 and 2 Queen's Crescent) are suggestive of a direct route to the tip of this hill-spur from the ancient Droitwich-to-Penkridge salt-way, presently designated the A491.
