Representation Summary:

I would like to take this opportunity to support the proposed designation of Corbett Meadow as a Local Green Space. This is with reference to Policy DSA4 in the Black Country Plan.
It is a beautiful green space in the middle of a busy built up area. Vicarage Road is currently a busy road so we need to prevent the option of additional housing being built on this site. A housing development would require a new access road off Vicarage Road in an area where the road bends, there are other roads off it and it is near to the entrance of the hospital. This can be very dangerous to car drivers and pedestrians. The additional traffic would make the road even busier where the volume of traffic is due to increase anyway due to housing developments near the Old Wharf Road and the Caledonia Sewage Works. The infrastructure won’t be able to cope with the additional housing with some of the doctors surgeries currently not able to provide sufficient appointments for the local population.
Local Green Spaces (LGS) are essential in current built up areas for the health and wellbeing of the local community. Clean air is something that we should all be entitled to which is what the LGS will help to achieve. Clean air will help with many conditions including asthma and copd. In addition it has mental health benefits. The meadow is a great asset to Corbett Hospital for the mental wellbeing for both patients and staff.
Wildlife is an essential part of our eco system. Many varieties of mammals, birds, insects and plants live within the meadow boundaries. In addition it has many health benefits for people and can be a saviour for people who feel isolated. It has many mental health benefits.
John Corbett gifted the land to the people of Stourbridge knowing the full benefits that it will have. These benefits have not changed so we should keep it as it is.
This will not only benefit the current local community but it will have a long term impact and benefit for future generations.
