Representation Summary:

SUPPORT THE AUTHORITIES RECOMMENDATION FOR LGS (Local Green Space approval) for the Corbett Meadow. This meadow needs protection. I cannot understand why it has not yet been preserved as a key piece of land in the Glass Quarter historic landscape. Pubs and factories have been protected but green space where workers regularly could go in their time off is not yet represented in the Glass Quarter historic landscape record. This may be the only remaining such space in Amblecote.

Up to 30,000 people visited Corbett Meadow on bank holiday fete days, many of whom were local glass workers, indeed glass exhibitions of Stourbridge glass were exhibited at some of these fetes in the early 20th century, the golden age of Stourbridge glass. This vital urban green space needs greater protection and becoming a LGS will only help that goal. It is the only visible green remaining that could be seen from the windows of Dennis House, as it was in the days Dennis house was occupied by the Webbs. Corbett meadow was therefore a feature of their daily lives. A true vestige of ancient green space that was valued by all Amblecote residents throughout the 20th century. Remarkably for such a built up area, it has resident buzzards, owls, ancient hedges, veteran oaks carrying populations of insects that cannot live on newly planted trees. These things and a historic green space used by thousands of Black country workers and their families will be lost forever should the site not be better preserved. I support the LGS status for Corbett Meadow and increased protection for it under the Glass Quarter historic landscape project
