Draft Black Country Plan

Representation Summary:

I am most concerned about the effects of additional housing on local roads. The roads are already unable to cope with the existing traffic, leaving traffic jams polluting the area to unacceptable levels.
Recent roadworks in the village (K'ford) resulted in enormous traffic jams along Cot Lane with residents having difficulty in getting in and out of their homes. The proposed housing would add approximately 1,000 - 1,500 vehicles needing access to the A449, Swindon Rd or Lodge lane. Not only would those vehicles face intolerable waits to access these roads, it would also make for frustration and road rage leading to accident hotspots at each junction. Buses are already in short supply to major destinations such as Russells Hall hospital and are therefore not a viable alternative.
The recent Covid restrictions on GP surgeries make it already difficult to get an appointment; with UCC at Russells Hall being totally overloaded as a result.
Also, the pandemic has altered the housing requirement and it should therefore be mandatory that another housing requirement assessment be undertaken to consider whether this planning application is necessary at all.
Brexit has also reduced the number of workers requiring accommodation in the long term.
