Draft Black Country Plan

Representation Summary:

I realise that the decisions that face you for development of the area are neither simple or necessarily beneficial to all. I applaud you support for maintaining the status of green field sites and rejection of certain proposals in the Halesowen area. It is with a similar pragmatism that I
would ask you to view any proposed green field sites whilst any brown field areas remain available.
It would appear from viewing the map of proposed development areas that a philosophy of 'foot-in-
the-door' or 'thin-end of the wedge' exists. Meaning that once an area of green field has been accepted then any remaining area will be viewed as less protected and acceptable for further continued development.
The process of developing green field areas is not reversible, getting it wrong stands in testimony to council of the day and condemns the local population to living with someone else's mistake. I remember Halesowen of the late sixties, yes it needed significant development but I would like to think that the council of today would have done so with sympathy and conservation, rather than the 'well intention' vandalism that in some cases didn't even survive a generation. Surely the lessons of the past are there to be learnt if one is willing.
