Representation Summary:

Re. Proposal to change status of the area (i) Between the borders of Sandyfields Road. Greenfield View. Raglan Close and Wood Farm Lane AND (ii) Land between High Arcal Road, Brickkiln Lane, Himley Road (estimated around 400 units by OBA Estates) from existing Green Belt to building land
With reference to the above submissions I am writing to strongly oppose these changes and any potential building on this land. The increase in traffic from any development would cause more congestion on already busy local roads. Gornal village and Sedgley town centre are already overloaded.
The Straits and Sandyfields Road, and roads leading onto the proposed housing estate would become more dangerous for pedestrians and children attending schools in the vicinity. Regarding access to the site this would have to be from the Dudley side.
Further problems are:
• Rise in noise and pollution
• Difficulty for emergency services to pass through an already very busy Gornal and Sedgley due to further increase in traffic
• More pressure on hospitals, GP services, clinics and other health services
• Higher demands on council provision of schools, nurseries and waste disposal
• Need for more public transport to cope with increased demand
It would totally spoil this Green Belt area and people presently residing in the location would no longer have Green Belt views but houses and rooftops instead. The local people of Gornal and Sedgley borders need their green open spaces for their health (both mental and physical), community identity and precious wildlife.
Many creatures are territorial and need their own area of habitat. Wildlife would be driven out and forced into smaller spaces. If these proposals are considered it would completely spoil the beauty of the area. During Covid Lockdown, green spaces have been greatly used and appreciated, but now they are under threat for housing.
Brownfield sites should be found and used and not our Green Belt land.
Please reject these submissions and any others for developing Green Belt land.
