Draft Black Country Plan

Representation ID: 12539

Received: 05/10/2021

Respondent: Miss Brittany B. Tullo

Representation Summary:

Reedswood Town Park public open space -

• The entire Reedswood Town Park public open space should be removed from the 'Core Regeneration Area' designation as shown on page 499 (within Figure 19: Walsall Spatial Strategy Plan) of the emerging BCP (Review) (2021).
• Reedswood Town Park should be designated as protected Parkland public open space on the main Policies Map of the emerging BCP (Review) (2021).
• Reedswood Town Park public open space should not be promoted as a potential new housing or new employment / development site within the emerging BCP (Review). Walsall Council should be aware that Town Parks are not at all appropriate locations for these types of uses given their high level of green space planning policy sensitivity. There are many other spaces upon which this would be more suitable.
• Reedswood Town Park should be specifically protected and designated as a key “wildlife corridor” on the main Policies Map of the emerging BCP (Review) given that it forms part of the wider ‘landscape-scale’ green infrastructure network connecting to other wildlife habitats.

Pouk Hill public open space, Bentley Lane, Reedswood, Walsall -

• Given its natural green space sensitivity, critical public open space and importance for local residents, this urban green lung area significantly helps to reduce the high and very harmful levels of air pollution from which we breathe each day. Not only from the M6 motorway network but all its surrounding areas. This specifically is a very busy area. The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be removed from the 'Core Regeneration Area' designation as shown on page 499 (within Figure 19: Walsall Spatial Strategy Plan) of the emerging Black Country Plan (BCP) (Review) (2021).
• The Pouk Hill green space area should not be promoted for new housing or new employment land development within the emerging BCP (Review).
• The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be specifically designated as an “Air Quality Enhancement Urban Green Lung Area” on the main Policies Map of the emerging BCP (Review) to ensure that its critical role in helping to reduce harmful levels of air pollution from the adjacent M6 motorway network etc. continues to remain protected for many years into the future. This sensitive urban green space area has significant Public Health benefits.
• The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be specifically designated as “Local Green Space” (LGS) on the main Policies Map of the emerging Black BCP (Review).
• The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be specifically designated as a ‘Site of Importance for Nature Conservation (SINC)’ on the main Policies Map of the emerging Black Country Plan (BCP) (Review).
• The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be covered and protected by a ‘blanket Tree Preservation Order (TPO)’ (a blanket TPO) designation within the emerging Black Country Plan (BCP) (Review) (2021).
• The entire Pouk Hill green space site should be specifically designated as a key “wildlife corridor” on the main Policies Map of the emerging BCP (Review) given that it forms part of the wider ‘landscape-scale’ green infrastructure network connecting to other wildlife habitats.

Not only the above points, this matter is very close to my heart. My young daughter, and I'm sure many other children in the local area, also have breathing difficulties. This is worsened by the polluted air and constant fuel emissions being let out into the atmosphere, especially living so close to such a busy motorway junction (Junction 10) and surrounding areas. Without our precious trees, green spaces and such, there will be very little protection and clean air as there will be nothing left to soak up the pollution. Each and every person deserves their rights to breathe clean, fresh air. Thus, we as parents and local residents demand that you rethink destroying our green spaces and nature areas. Instead please consider to protect and nourish them by promoting healthy living, healthy breathing, promote better physical and mental health. Our green spaces, nature areas, and parks are truly miraculous, not only for us and our health, but our beloved pets and precious wildlife.
