Draft Black Country Plan

Representation ID: 11274

Received: 29/09/2021

Respondent: Councillor Ray Burston

Representation Summary:

Have the population projections been adjusted to account for lower inward migration based on Britain's departure from the European Union and the drive to fill more job vacancies from within the indigenous workforce? This will impact on projected demand for housing.

Draft Black Country Plan

Received: 29/09/2021

Respondent: Councillor Ray Burston

Representation Summary:

Regarding public transport, the lay-out of new housing development needs to be sympathetic to efficient penetration by bus services. In particular, to avoid wherever possible the creation of large dead-end housing developments which, while the mitigate against rat-running by motorists, will involve buses having to double-back on themselves, resulting in inefficient, time-wasting - and often unviable - diversions to journeys.

1.36 my answer to all of these is the same, in our area Great Barr how is taking our Green fields to build houses going to help the people already in our community, all it will do is take away fresh air, nature and tranquil green fields, destroy habitants for wildlife. this in itself causes depression obesity and mental health issues. it just doesnot make sense thats why we want to keep our field just as they are. we do not even have a library in pheasey/park farm. its a disgrace, our pavements are cracked and broken.

Received: 10/10/2021

Respondent: Ms Julie Edwards

Representation Summary:

Please stop building the characterless housing estates across the borough. One size does not fit all. Make smaller more bespoke live work spaces. Use what we have already and redevelop. Warehouses across the borough deliberately burnt down which would make wonderful live work areas. New housing states popping up that all look the same. Green spaces been eaten up, no wonderful folk are depressed and fed up.

Refering to section 1.34 - 1.36 Health and Wellbeing and QUESLETT ROAD EAST/ALDRIDGE ROAD
I have lived in this area for 63 years. The walk to Doe bank lane Park and the sweeping view at sunrise towards Sutton Park will be destroyed. My mental health will be impacted.

Until you actually make positive impact in the poorer areas of the Black Country with health, education, and commercial attractiveness this is irrelevant. People will not be able to afford new housing or want to come here unless these issues are addressed first.

This section should describes the natural landscape of the Black Country, recognising the significant influence that industrial heritage has on today’s physical environment. The existing natural environment of the Black Country should be both
described and celebrated in a standalone natural environment paragraph.

Walsall development queslett road/doe bank lane/Aldridge road
1.34 once again health and well-being are mentioned in this plan with lower rates of physical activity and higher obesity. Why the need to build on an area of peaceful tranquility that aids mental health and well-being?. Many people used this area for walking unwinding and relaxation for many years and more so during the recent pandemic.

1.37 transport
Once again contradictory. This point mentions traffic congestion. If the build goes ahead each house could have at least 1 or up to 4 cars which equates to at least 900 extra cars!

Draft Black Country Plan

Representation ID: 18497

Received: 11/10/2021

Respondent: The Wildlife Trust for Birmingham and the Black Country

Representation Summary:

A paragraph should be added that describes the natural landscape of the Black Country.
The Black Country Spatial Portrait recognises the significant influence that industrial heritage has on today’s physical environment but not the geological resources that shaped that industry and the pattern of settlement it left behind.
WTBBC welcomes the reference to the influence of the natural environment on health and wellbeing, however, the richness and value of the existing natural environment of the Black Country should be both described and celebrated in a standalone natural environment paragraph.
