Black Country Core Strategy Issue and Option Report

Representation ID: 929

Received: 08/09/2017

Respondent: Mr Graham Page

Representation Summary:

I was concerned to hear that there is a possibility that the green belt land adjacent to Manor Way in Halesowen could be developed for commercial and residential use.
I wish to register my objection to this green belt development on the following basis:
* There are large areas of brown field sites which should be considered first particularly for commercial use
* There is no public transport infrastructure to support a potentially large residential development
* Other sites within existing residential areas already have public transport which needs support as identified by empty buses and trains at times other than during peak rush hour
* The current fields help with any water soakaway during heavy rain that flows from the motorway. In the past exceptionally heavy downpours have resulted in overflowing sewers and flooding of the river. A issue that can only get worse if grassland is replaced by hard surfaces
* The erosion of limited and precious green space which has a detrimental effect on local wild life
* Some of the areas concerned have a major historic significance which would be forever lost
The need for additional housing stock is understandable but in view of the above to consider building on green belt land when there is so many brown field sites available doesn't make any logical sense.
I do understand that to build on a virgin site alleviates the need to cleanse the toxic brown field sites which exist in the former industrial areas. Any additional cost associated with current derelict sites does however, need to be balanced against the cost to deliver services (i.e. gas, electric, water, telephone) to any new sites.
Regards
Graham Page
