Great to see the importance of Green spaces being recognized in supporting Physical activity, mental health improvement, providing local food production opportunities. We need to ensure the quality of these greenspaces is maintained and new resources found to ensure new greenspaces can be maintained to a high standard for future residents.

Policy HOU1 – Delivering Sustainable Housing Growth
Representation ID: 11621
Received: 07/10/2021
Respondent: Walsall MBC
The importance of Green belt policy should remain sacrosanct to the people living in urban areas, the importance of access to green spaces is so critical to the health and wellbeing of people living in highly urban and industrialised areas. It is important in the levelling up debate to consider where areas of health deprivation exist and to target housing outside those areas.

The importance or regionally important parks need to be recognised such as Mary Stevens Park in Stourbridge 1.4million visits per year , Walsall Arboretum over 1 million visits per year plus West Park Wolverhampton. Green spaces, urban parks are often overlooked as visitor attractions in their own right

Can some reference be made the the Black Country Urban Forest which had a significant amount of planting through Lottery in 1995- 2000, money was also made available for managing urban woodlands through this funding project. These trees are now over 20 years old and in need of management. These trees contribute significantly to the BC landscape and should not be destroyed in pursuit of development sites. If these sites are under threat then appropriate mitigation nearby needs to be found.

Excellent point about the need to encourage people to walk and cycle in their local area, so facilities in order to be able to do this effectively are really important as part of neighborhood growth area plans.

If we are trying to meet our Climate change targets then we should consider including the code for sustainable homes as a design requirement.
